The purpose of this blog is to explore how small community-conscious businesses are striving to improve their community impact. The current buzzwords for this type of behavior include "corporate social responsibility," "the triple bottom line" and "sustainability", perhaps even, broadly interpreted, the "greening of business." In that spirit, knowing that businesses collectively have the power to preserve our society and our planet, I choose to use the term "businesship, " as a shorthand for good corporate citizenship. I can't wait to learn how many other people have copyrighted this term. My particular area of interest is the warm and fuzzy "social impact," the policies and programs of businesses that impact employee well-being and surrounding institutions, neighborhoods and residents. I am so concerned about the need we all share to encourage business leaders and employees to do the right thing, that I am steering new growth in my consulting practice in this direction. I have even started, with colleagues, one of the first 20 professional chapters of Net Impact here in Salt Lake City (http://www.netimpactslc.org) an organization devoted to harnessing the power of business for good since 1993. I will be placing tools and views within the broad area of businesship in the Resources area of the Klass Strategies website (http://www.klass-strategies.com/component/option,com_linkdirectory/Itemid,63/ . Back to work…..
