October 1, 2011: Fall Forward! |

Oh
yeah, what were those priorities we had for this year? As the calendar
year and most nonprofit fiscal years conclude, now is the time for a burst of
energy. A quick checklist might help. Go back to the annual plan
and see what was supposed to be happening by now: those goal
thingies. Can you do something significant in any of these areas by
year's end? Can you streamline procedure to make this happen - either let
staff or contractors loose to help or pin down commitments of key
committee/work group leaders for one big chore each?
Work on membership and nominations NOW, if new board members need to be in
place for the new years. Think about how to get mileage for your mission,
recognition for in-house AND community heroes at the annual year end
meeting. What about those new relationships with allies sources of
in-kind and cash support that board members committed to initiate - is there
still time? Are there any sensitive diplomatic or public image issues
staff is deferring that board members can help think through? What are
the three things that you will feel really bad about if they are not completed in
the next 90 days?
