Each faith tradition, every community, family and individual all have spring rituals. Could your board benefit from a ceremonial rebirth? Above all else, this is a time of renewed vigor and opportunity for change or beginnings. Here’s a thought. Email out a simple question to board members in advance of the next meeting: is there something new we should do? As your virtual consultant, I grant you license and declare open season for bold ideas, even small ones. Why not put that one new feature or correction in the bylaws that you have always wanted. Why not try one more time to talk about your favorite “elephant in the room” issue. Why not try at one new method that you have heard of to recruit new board members. Why not try a new way to engage stakeholders and ask them what they would like to see the organization do to improve its impact. Why not switch committees or take on a new assignment. Why not commit to enlarge your annual personal stretch gift, even though it will take some planning and sacrifice. Why not cultivate a new future leader from among your ranks (could it be you?). Don’t waste a great spring. You have waited a long time and looked forward to this moment. The proper “now” is today!
